Watercourse renovation

Van Boekel GmbH was commissioned by Wasserverband Eifel-Rur to renovate approximately 130 metres of an existing watercourse, after winning a public tender by offering the lowest price.

Project description

The existing concrete watercourse was in need of an overhaul, having been left in extremely poor condition by the ravages of time.

The watercourse is flanked by old buildings which had to be anchored with ERKA piles before the existing watercourse could be demolished.

After the piles had been installed, a bypass was made with a so-called “hebeanlage”, guaranteeing the continued drainage of the water.

Demolishing the existing concrete elements and installing the new replacements was a challenge, because the construction site was bordered by buildings on both sides, with the narrow site complicating the use of large machinery and equipment. Deploying a telescopic crane proved to be challenging.

Further more, we also had to take local residents into account, making sure to keep them informed of the progress and any closures, as well as building a separate “temporary” car park.

The client had carefully worked out a supply route for the concrete elements in advance, which meant we only had to optimise it on site.

After the elements had been installed, we made adjustments to the paving around the watercourse.
