Bicycle and pedestrian bridge, Boxmeer
Commissioned by Haasnoot Bruggen, Van Boekel was involved as a subcontractor in the construction of the cycling and pedestrian bridge over the Hoge Startwijk in Boxmeer Here, next to the A77 motorway, we were responsible for the entire concrete structure, including the natural stone finish.
Sterckwijck is a remarkable site, because the archaeological remains found there show that it was inhabited as long as 4,500 years ago. The fact that people have lived here continuously for so long is nothing short of unique.
This has been shown by farm and well finds, as well as pottery, shards of metal and natural stone, with archaeologists even finding knives, a horse harness, coins, a toy and even building materials.
With this in mind, the bridge was designed entirely in medieval style. The 52-metre bridge features a wooden span on a brick support, seated on a steel and concrete structure.
