Reconstruction of Kapellenplatz and Johannes-Stalenus-Platz in Kevelaer

Van Boekel GmbH has been commissioned to update the sewerage and pavements in the heart of the historical centre of Kevelaer, the German pligrimage site.

Because this busy pligrimage site honouring Mary needs to remain accessible to the public at all times, we have developed a complex planning schedule to keep inconvenience to the area and its visitors to a minimum.

The existing road surface will be lifted and replaced again after the installation of new utility and sewerage provisions. It was decided to reuse the natural stone paving to preserve the characteristic image.

Walkways of sawn natural stone will be constructed in the natural stone paving to make it more accessible to the disabled.

The lighting around the Chapel of Grace, the Candle Chapel and the Basilica is completely in keeping with the image of the square and partly determines it. The existing lighting is therefore being dismantled and restored.

A unique project in the heart of the historical centre of Kevelaer!

The project

Under the guidance of an archeologist, we are currently busy installing the district heating system and replacing the other utility provisions. During the works, we stumbled upon a number of unique foundations, probably from the 15th or 16th century. The archeologists are in the process of identifying these.

We have meanwhile also started cleaning up the main sewer on Maasstraße and we encounter new challenges that come with complex inner city work every day.

Smaller machines generally have to be used to carry out inner city work. We therefore decided to invest in our fleet of machinery by expanding it with 2 diggers and 1 mini loader.

Van Boekel Bouw & Infra started changing course a few years ago. We started focusing more on multidisciplinary concrete projects in the civil and utility construction industry. We started focusing on projects awarded on the basis of best value for money (VFM) and have thus extricated ourselves from the low-cost market. Thanks to this change of direction, Van Boekel Bouw & Infra has acquired new clients, specialises in new types of projects and contracts (UAV-gc, amongst others), and has expanded its area of work both nationally and internationally. During this change of direction, our colleagues and organisation have worked hard to make it a success, with the primary focus being external. That is to say: a great deal of effort has gone into winning new clients and executing new projects in recent years.
